Manchester United’s summer was truly awful. I guess the only real signing of note was Fred, joining from Shakhtar Donetsk.
There was work to do on the selling side also. However, the sole player to depart from the first-team squad? Daley Blind.
Things could well change in January, however, according to The Transfer Tavern. They claim that Wolverhampton Wanderers are lining up an audacious winter window bid for the Red Devils’ Juan Mata.
Everyone loves a little bit o’ Juan. The Spaniard is a real fan favourite at Old Trafford. He’s a great player, often underused or played out-of-position – but that’s down to the fact that our squad is absolutely stacked with quality in the final third.
When Jose Mourinho was named manager, I always thought Mata would be the first name out the door. He’s done well to last two-and-a-half years, but he’s only started in one game from four this season. Perhaps this is the start of the end.
Nuno Espirito Santo moving for Mata would make an awful lot of sense. Him sitting just in-behind the striker at Molineux must be an exciting prospect for their fans, while United would be happy to recoup some of the transfer fee that they signed to get him. It seems like a win-win…
