Manchester United have certainly had their struggles since Sir Alex Ferguson decided to call time on his legendary career at Old Trafford.

At the time, David Moyes was slammed by fans following his dross debut campaign in charge, but maybe, just maybe, the problems are worse than we thought. Let’s be honest, the two managers since haven’t fared much better.

That does make you wonder what would have happened if Moyes was given the time. Let’s not forget that he wasn’t heavily backed in his first transfer market, with only Marouane Fellaini coming through the door.

Now, the Scot has confirmed that he had a deal in place with the world-class Toni Kroos to move to Old Trafford. Obviously, Moyes was sacked and instead, the German moved to Real Madrid…

“It is true,” the former Red Devils boss told talkSPORT’s Alan Brazil.

“Toni Kroos had agreed to come to Manchester United with me.

“I met him and his wife and we had agreed it all when he was at Bayern.

“But I was only going to get it done before the end of the season, before he joined Real Madrid.”

It does make you wonder. At that time, the club were crying out for a player like Kroos. His footballing brain, know-how and all-around brilliance would have been a huge asset. At the time where Kroos was approaching his peak years, too…

As they say, time is so vital in this sport. We’ll never know if Moyes would have worked out, I certainly would still have my doubts about the ex-Everton boss leading us into battle, but when you look back on it, he certainly never really got a fair crack at the whip.
