Manchester United and David de Gea were embroiled in one of the transfer sagas of the summer, which eventually resulted in the Spaniard staying at Old Trafford, and subsequently signing a new long-term contract.
That wasn’t always expected to be the case however, and Federico Pastorello, the agent of Slovenian shot-stopper Samir Handanovic, has confirmed that Manchester United were interested in his client if David de Gea did leave.

“All I know is that [Handanovic] was an alternative to David De Gea in case of departure of the latter,” Pastorello began.
“Now [he] is preparing to extend [his] fight with Inter and he is very happy.”
The 31-year old is vastly underrated for his abilities in-between the sticks, and for me he was one of my favoured options if David de Gea did leave. However the situation couldn’t have played out any better for Manchester United as the Spaniard is certainly one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
