World class Spaniard told to sign long-term Manchester United deal

Manchester United and David de Gea have been at loggerheads all summer, and with just hours left in the transfer window that saga is still rumbling on. Former club legend Peter Schmeichel has had his say on the matter, and he wants the shot-stopper to pen a new Old Trafford contract.

“I hope that we’ll see him. I hope that some kind of resolution is found within the next couple of days.” Schmeichel said.

“I would love David de Gea to commit to Manchester United, you know, and sign a new five-year contract. He has been absolutely outstanding in the last two seasons.”

Somehow you just cannot see this happening. It looks as though De Gea’s relationship with Louis van Gaal has completely broken down and he will leave, it just seems a case of when rather than if now, as Manchester United look to hold onto him for one final season.

Personally I’d continue with Sergio Romero in goal beyond the window. The Argentinian has looked solid so far, and we should make David de Gea earn his place back rather than handing it to him on a plate.
