Wout Weghorst has signed his Man United contract, with an official announcement imminent.
This past week has been one dominated by Wout Weghorst news. The Dutchman has been identified as the short-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.
After doing okay at both Burnley and Besiktas over the last eighteen months, Weghorst will now make the move to the Theatre of Dreams on a short-term deal.
Aged 30, Weghorst will bring some experience, while offering something completely different stylistically.
The latest information on the deal comes from Fabrizio Romano, who seems to think that official confirmation isn’t too far away. Apparently, the contracts have been signed, with a club statement to follow imminently. Weghorst is set to become United’s second January addition after Jack Butland.
Check out Fabrizio Romano’s tweet on the news here:
For Weghorst, this is a massive opportunity. The striker has eight goals in sixteen games for Besiktas this term. Now, he’s got the opportunity to try and replicate that for the biggest club in England.
No doubt Erik ten Hag has watched Weghorst closely for numerous years with the striker being a Dutchman like our manager. This is a deal that the gaffer clearly feels comfortable making.
I actually think this will be an astute piece of business. Anthony Martial cannot do it all on his own from now until the end of the campaign, with Weghorst offering something completely different to the Frenchman.
No doubt Weghorst is ready to grasp this chance with both hands. He’s eager to take part in the derby tomorrow, though I imagine this one probably comes a little bit too soon for the forward.
Hopefully, we get an official announcement today.
