Manchester United drew 2-2 with Stoke City over the weekend, and they’ll have no time to dwell on those dropped points, because next up is a game against FC Basel in the Champions League.
Stoke winger Xherdan Shaqiri once played for FC Basel, and before the game, he has urged his former employers to go for the jugular and try to take the game to the Red Devils; because that’s the only way to beat them.
The talented Swissman has suggested that Basel will have to play bravely to try and go for the win because United are vulnerable at the back. He also added that Jose Mourinho has an abundance of quality to call upon in attack – but you have to take that risk.
“If they do it’s with their defence.” Shaqiri is quoted as saying by The Mirror.
“That’s what our goals have shown. If you play quickly and bravely, their defenders will have problems.
“At the back, Manchester are vulnerable. We are physical and tactical. We did not hide.”
“You have to play bravely.”
“It does not matter if you lose. Man United have so much class in their attack.”
To be brutally honest to Shaqiri, both of Stoke’s goals came from stupid individual mistakes. I don’t think that they pressured us into those errors, moreso, United only had themselves to blame.
Where I will suggest that Basel may have an opportunity is the fact that Manchester United will be playing a completely different back two. Both Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling will come into the team, and we’re not really sure as to how that partnership will develop and grow as of right now.
Hopefully, the pairing can start off well, grow in confidence and they should be able to come through the game against the Switzerland champions relatively unscathed.
