Back in March, we covered a story in which it was claimed that Yeferson Soteldo has always dreamed of a move to Manchester United, though he remains 100% committed to playing for his current club, Santos.
Well, it seems as though Soteldo has doubled down on those rumours, with the 22-year-old reaffirming his dream to play for United, while admitting he’d sign a lifetime contract at Old Trafford if given the opportunity.
“I don’t like rumours, I have my whole family in Venezuela. I want to finish this stage at Santos by December, win the Copa Libertadores and whatever is possible and then take another step. I always dreamed of playing for Manchester United, the dream remains intact.” Soteldo told Gazeta Esportiva, translated by Sport Witness.
“There are many steps to get there, but I feel I can. I want to go to Europe, but not to go and come back. I want to go and pursue my career with greater success. I feel like I’m prepared and I have to wait for the right moment to do it.”
Soteldo was then asked whether he’d choose a move to United over the likes of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona:
“I’ve been following Cristiano Ronaldo since I was a child, I saw him at Manchester United and that’s why my love and desire to play at Old Trafford. I would choose them easy. I would make a lifetime contract.”
By trade, Soteldo is a left-winger, though he does possess the ability to play all across the front three. In the modern-day game, versatility is as important as ever, particularly in this fluid Ole Gunnar Solskjaer system.
Soteldo fits the mould that United have swayed towards recently. Young, hungry, and willing to learn and progress. This is a team that is being built to compete across multiple years, as opposed to just one.
Aged just 22, Soteldo still has plenty of learning to do, though you can’t doubt his overall talent and ability. Make no mistake about it, he’s good enough to secure a big-money move in the not too distant future – though we’re still unsure as to whether United want the player.
As of right now, all the talk has been from Soteldo’s side. No doubt United are starting to take note of his performances, but will that be enough?
