Ralf Rangnick has named three young Man United starlets in his squad for the Crystal Palace game today.
Manchester United’s season is pretty much over. Today’s game against Crystal Palace has nothing but pride on the line.
With the way it’s gone this season, I expect we’ll see very little fight and intent from those in red – which is pretty depressing given they’re playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world…
Perhaps that injection of youth and hunger is needed. Ralf Rangnick could also possibly see it that way when you look at the team news.
The Manchester Evening News have got their hands on some confirmed squad news, with a young United trio named in the travelling party for today’s game vs Crystal Palace.
According to their reporters, Alvaro Fernandez, Charlie Savage and Shola Shoretire are all included. There’s sadly no space for Alejandro Garnacho who has been dealing with an illness.
With United’s squad looking hit by injury, this is the opportune moment to see what these guys have.
For me, Fernandez is best-positioned to be handed a start here. Alex Telles has been struggling while Luke Shaw is out injured. Why not see what the ex-Real Madrid man can do? He’s been tearing it up at u23 level, winning the Player of the Season award for that age group.
Shoretire and Savage feel a little further behind in their development, but both are knocking on the door. Their pathway to a start here is a little tougher, given the depth available to Rangnick in their position.
That said, both will be feeling good and can no doubt take an awful lot away from being included in the match day squad. It’s all good practice, regardless.
I’d expect these guys, along with both Hannibal Mejbri and the aforementioned Garnacho, are good bets to be included on our pre-season tour over the summer. I’m already looking forward to seeing these boys in action in those friendlies!
