Zaha To United Rumours Picking Up Speed

It seems as though ever since the 20-year old Crystal Palace starlet played against us in the newly-named Capital One Cup last season, rumours linking the winger to United have been picking up speed, especially in this transfer window. The latest gossip is that the England international will sign for United within the next 48 hours.

The fee for the youngster is rumoured to be around the £12million mark, which is steep for someone who hasn’t played a minute of Premier League football, especially when you consider someone like Raheem Sterling who is two years younger and already has half a season of regular Premier League football under his belt. Zaha’s Championship record isn’t that impressive either, he has found the net 12 times in 108 appearances in the second tier of English football. The young man has an England cap already, which shows that he must have something about him.

According to various reports, Mike Phelan was at the Palace game this weekend to watch Zaha, and this only fueled the fire about the prospect of him joining us. Many also thought that Zaha had confirmed the move to United himself, but the tweet was deemed a fake.

There is no doubt Zaha has a bright future ahead of him, but for me a move to United in this transfer window would be too soon for him. At the very earliest I’d like to see him come in the summer in a deal similar to the Chris Smalling deal back in 2010, where he remained at his present club for the remainder of the season.
