Zidane Iqbal set to stay at Man United after impressive pre-season

Zidane Iqbal will remain with the Man United first-team, rather than head out on loan.

Erik ten Hag’s pre-season was wholly positive. The Manchester United manager is starting to form his regular first XI, while also giving some surprise youngsters a chance.

Everyone assumed Alejandro Garnacho would be the teenager everyone would be impressed by. However, that hasn’t been the case. Instead, two central midfielders have caught the eye; Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage.

The pair have come through the United academy together, looking like a superb combination during friendly games. Well, the Daily Mail have news on Iqbal.

According to their latest information, the United youngster is ‘set to stay’ with the Reds’ first-team after his impressive pre-season – rather than heading out on loan.

Iqbal looked more than comfortable at the heart of United’s midfield, playing with supreme confidence, underrated ability and genuine quality. Honestly, the Pakistani-born-Mancunian has surprised us all with his sheer talent.

This is obviously just the start of his young career, but you cannot help but feel impressed with what he’s produced on the pitch, albeit in friendly games.

Credit must go to Ten Hag for recognising his gifts early and giving him that opportunity to prove his worth. Obviously, he’s done something right, with the 19-year-old set to be in the first-team mix this term.

Nobody is expecting Iqbal to start every single game, but the confidence-booster that this will bring him is absolutely massive. He’ll also benefit from training with these high-level players every single day in training.

Hopefully, Iqbal remains grounded and fully focused on developing as a footballer. I, for one, am excited to see how he progresses over the next nine months.
