Zidane Iqbal signs new Man United contract

Zidane Iqbal has signed a new Man United contract, keeping him at the club until at least 2025.

Manchester United are yet to make any signings this summer, with Erik ten Hag seemingly keen to take a look at what he already has before investing.

Training started yesterday, with a youthful group of Red Devils returning to the AON Training Complex. Amongst them was Zidane Iqbal.

A boyhood United fan who has been at the club since age nine, finally getting his chance at the highest level. After making his debut against Young Boys last term, Iqbal is no doubt chomping at the bit.

Well, ahead of the new term, Iqbal has been given some brilliant news. The club confirmed that the 19-year-old has signed a new Reds contract until 2025, with the player all-smiles as he put pen to paper.

The Whalley Range-born academy graduate is a Mancunian of Pakistani and Iraqi heritage, with Iqbal already playing for Iraq at the highest level.

A midfielder by trade, Iqbal will no doubt be hoping to impress Ten Hag in training over the next fortnight, earning a place on pre-season tour next month as a result.

With United looking pretty thin in the central area right now, there may be no better chance for Iqbal to prove his worth – particularly as the likes of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic are no longer around.

Iqbal is a massive talent, there’s no doubt about that. I do wonder whether he’d benefit from a loan move away from Manchester, though.

Playing regularly would allow Iqbal to take that next step and if he remains at Old Trafford, sitting on the fringes of the first-team, his development could stall.

Either way, it’s great news that Zidane Iqbal has signed a new contract meaning his future is now secure.
