Sir Jim Ratcliffe is said to have Zinedine Zidane at the top of his list of managers to replace Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United’s season could be over within the next few days. A trip to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup tonight is followed up by the Manchester derby on Sunday. Lose both and no silverware will be won, while a place in next season’s Champions League would be in major doubt.
Erik ten Hag is no doubt feeling the pressure as a result. His situation is not helped by injuries that continue to decimate the squad. Let’s be honest, the Reds haven’t looked good at the best of times, nevermind when half of the first-team is missing…
With INEOS now in charge of footballing operations, speculation is growing in regard to Ten Hag’s position. At the end of the day, he was not an INEOS hire, hence, they’d find it easier to relieve the Dutchman of his duties…
According to French media outlet Foot Mercato, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has a certain 51-year-old manager at the top of his wishlist to replace Ten Hag; Zinedine Zidane…
The fact that Sir Jim is already looking at other options tells you he’s not completely sold on Ten Hag. To be fair, I understand it. After all, results this season have been pretty poor, while sometimes, tactically, this side looks lost.
However, United need to get out of the habit of sacking managers after a poor season. It takes time to build a culture. Ten Hag hasn’t been given that, while he is working under strenuous circumstances due to the fact that he cannot move on from half of this squad due to their massive wages…
I like Zidane, who is currently out of work. However, he’s only managed Real Madrid which was the perfect situation. The polar opposite to how it is at the Theatre of Dreams right now. I actually believe bringing in the Frenchman would be a huge gamble. Though I do understand the lure of signing a renowned name like that.
