Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s time at Manchester United was short but sweet. He helped the club win two trophies during Jose Mourinho’s debut season, before suffering a devastating injury.
The veteran forward became a real leader on the field. Someone who the rest of the players looked up to for inspiration. He scored some crucial goals and dragged his teammates through it at times.
Although he wasn’t here for very long, Ibrahimovic more than made his mark on the Old Trafford faithful. We all loved him from day one and we realise we’re genuinely lucky to call him a United man for life.
Now, in a recent interview, Ibrahimovic’s love for the fans is seemingly just as strong…
Oh, the United fans, by the way… they are amazing. I’m not just saying that because I played for United.” Ibrahimovic told the official website.
“I know now because I’ve been on their side and I know the feeling they give you. I don’t need to lick a**, but the fans were just amazing. I remember my first game in the Premier League at Bournemouth, I scored and the fans were singing my song for 45 minutes. After 20 minutes I was like: guys, please, my game is not really on top right now. Wait until I’m on top, wait and see!”
“Inside, I was like: f***, this is fantastic!”
To hear him speak so highly of us is just marvellous. It’s not easy to earn our love, and I guess Ibrahimovic had a helping hand because he was world renowned when he came here, but from day one, he became a fan favourite.
The goals, the attitude, the swagger. He’s the complete package. It’s just a shame his time at United ended the way that it did. The injury set him back severely and although he returned quickly, he never looked like the same player.
I’m pleased to report that he’s now enjoying life in the MLS looking as good as he ever did, and it’s heartwarming to learn that he still keeps one eye on United when he can…
