Zlatan Ibrahimovic wins first major personal award as a Manchester United player

Manchester United Football Club had pretty much a perfect December in terms of Premier League performances which was brilliant to see. Jose Mourinho’s men really put the pressure on the teams above them in the league table, as they won all of their fixtures over the hectic winter schedule.

Although the team as a whole were great, there was one man involved in everything good about our football, and that was Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swede scored six goals in seven matches, as well as adding countless assists on for his teammates throughout the month.

Those sublime performances have been rewarded by winning the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award for December, beating out competition from the likes of Adam Lallana and Cesar Azpilicueta.

Sky Sports say that there were close to 64,000 votes made across their website and apps, with just over 24,000 of them for Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The man in second place was Adam Lallana, who was voted for just under 18,000 times – so you’d say the victory was rather comfortable for our forward.

This is the first major personal award he has won whilst wearing the red of Manchester United, and hopefully, this is the first of many more to come.

As he collected the award, Zlatan Ibrahimovic said:

“It gives me a lot of energy, trust me,” Sky Sports quote the 35-year-old as saying. “A lot of energy, because they get paid to talk and I get paid to play with my feet – that’s how I enjoy it.

“I wanted to come when everyone thought I was over [the hill]. I’m super-happy and I feel good.”
